Raipur: A Maoist wanted for the murder of a civilian in 2015 was arrested in Sukma.
The accused Maoist was identified as Kunjam Somra alias Somaru, 30, a resident of Nagaram village, and a militia member of the banned Maoist organization. The murder took place on March 21, 2015, in Patelpara near Nagaram village, where a villager, Nuppo Chaitu, was beaten to death in front of villagers using sticks, axes, and his body was later burned.
A permanent warrant was issued against Somra by a local court in a case registered at the then Jagargunda police station under sections 147, 148, 149, 364, 302, 201, 506, 120B of the Indian Penal Code, along with provisions of the Arms Act and Unlawful Activities Prevention Act (UAPA).
The arrest took place on May 3, 2025, during a routine joint area domination patrol between Lakhapal Camp and Nagaram, based on intelligence. Police spotted a suspicious individual approaching from the Nagaram side who tried to evade the patrol team.
