Ranchi: A total of 46 out of 55 students from the govt-run Akanksha Yojana have qualified for JEE Advanced after clearing JEE Main. The coaching, a flagship initiative of the department of school education and literacy, provides free residential coaching to talented students from disadvantaged backgrounds.

The successful candidates, representing various categories including OBC, ST, SC, and EWS, have shown exceptional performance with many scoring above the 90th percentile. Top performers include Sachin Kumar and Khushboo Kumari (99.44 percentile), Aman Raj (99.32), and Subal Kumar Nandi (99.29). Other notable achievers are Sanjeev Raj (98.05), Raj Shree (97.83), Sudeep Kumar Mahato (97.76), Satyam Kumar Gupta (97.45), Katrun Nada (97.29), and Satish Kumar Yadav (96.95).

Launched in 2016-17, the Akanksha Yojana offers free intermediate science education and coaching for competitive exams like JEE, NEET, and CLAT. Students are selected through a two-stage examination process and receive free education, accommodation, and meals, supported by expert faculty.

District education officer and programme nodal officer Vinay Kumar said, "This is not just a result, it's a breakthrough. Many of these children are first-generation learners. Their success shows what targeted support and opportunity can achieve."

Khushboo Kumari, one of the top performers, highlighted the programme's impact: "To attain similar results in private coaching centers, students typically spend lakhs of rupees. But under Akanksha, all of this is made possible free of cost by the government."
