Rajesh Khanna and Mumtaz were a hit pair and they featured together in a long list of movies - from 'Aap Ki Kasam' to 'Sachaa Jutha'. Khanna's stardom was also unmatched as he was called the 'first superstar' of Hindi cinema. Not to mention, there have been stories that Khanna's car was filled with lipstick marks. Once, Khanna's co-star Asrani had recalled an incident which took place at the premiere of 'Do Raaste'.
A page which was dedicated to him and was called, 'Rajesh Khanna - the king of superstardom' had once shared an interview of Adrani. He recalled what happened at the premiere of 'Do Raaste' at Metro cinema in south Mumbai. Asrani recalled, "There were swelling crowds outside and a full house inside. There was pandemonium when he arrived. As though God had arrived. The suited filmmakers were pushed aside. The crowds from the streets barged into the theatre. There was lathi charge amongst cries of "Rajesh Khanna, Rajesh Khanna" Everyone wanted to touch him. It took him 40 minutes to reach the stage. When the song Bindiya Chamkegi was played, there were whistles and coin throwing. He was whisked away even before the screening was complete."
Asrani was one of the most popular actors in the 70s and 80s and featured in some of the best films in the most memorable roles. He had worked with Khanna in many movies and had once recalled how the 'Anand' actor had a superiority complex. In an interview, he had shared that things seemed awkward between Amitabh Bachchan during 'Anand' though they remained cordial. It was because of the fact that Rajesh had a superiority complex with the attitude that nobody can shake him and he's too powerful.
