Harris not eating gummies to deal with election stress: What exactly are they?

Send Push
In a recent interview, when quizzed about her mechanism to cope with stress levels ahead of US elections, US Vice President Kamala Harris humorously responded by saying she was not eating 'gummies', which left the crowd amused.

For the uninitiated, Harris was referring to THC-infused Marijuana gummies that can have psychoactive effects and are known to promote relaxation and alleviate anxiety. Harris may have taken an unambiguous stance on legalising recreational marijuana if elected President, she made it clear she has other ways to tackle stress.

Former news anchor Maria Shriver in an interview had mentioned to Harris that many people are handling election stress with activities like meditation, yoga or even consuming gummies. She asked Harris how she was dealing with it, and her response was rib-tickling.

What are marijuana gummies?

Although, they look like ordinary candies, marijuana gummies are edible cannabis products infused with THC (tetrahydrocannabinol), the psychoactive compound derived from cannabis. The THC in it can give a sense of high and many have it to beat stress and promote relaxation.

Tetrahydrocannabinol or THC is a cannabinoid found in cannabis and is the primary psychoactive element of cannabis.

These gummies are available in a range of flavours, shapes and sizes and can be used for both recreational and medicinal purpose. People often consume it to get a high, ease stress or promote sleep.

Not just candies, there is a range of marijuana-infused edibles that are catching popularity for both recreational as well as medicinal purpose. This includes cookies, candies, popcorn, cupcakes, brownies, chocolates, and beverages. The purpose is to achieve a “high” that people associate with cannabis.

Medical marijuana comes in the same forms as recreational marijuana. Edible marijuana benefits range from relaxation, anxiety relief, and managing chronic pain. Consuming more than the recommended amount, can cause cannabis poisoning and lead to side effects like nausea or panic attacks.

Harris had announced on Monday that she would fully legalize adult recreational cannabis on the federal level if elected as President. She is the first President nominee to have taken such a clear stance on ending cannabis prohibition.
