NEW DELHI: Kolkata Knight Riders secured an emphatic eight-wicket victory over Chennai Super Kings in the Indian Premier League on Friday, with Sunil Narine delivering an outstanding all-round performance by taking three wickets and scoring a quick-fire 44 runs off 18 balls.

Chennai Super Kings posted their lowest total at home ground Chepauk, managing only 103/9, which is also the third-lowest score in IPL history. The five-time champions suffered their fifth consecutive defeat.

The win propelled Kolkata to third position in the points table, while Chennai dropped to ninth in the ten-team competition.

"We had our plans and that worked well for us tonight," said Kolkata captain Ajinkya Rahane . "We still have a long way to go in the tournament... Last game we lost by four wickets, it was about starting from scratch."

Kolkata's chase began strongly with openers Quinton de Kock and Narine, before de Kock fell to Anshul Kamboj for 23 runs. Narine continued his aggressive batting, hitting two consecutive sixes against Ravichandran Ashwin before being bowled by Noor Ahmad.

"We need to look deep down inside. Challenge was there, but we needed to tackle," said Chennai skipper M.S. Dhoni. "We didn't have enough runs on the board today."

Chennai's innings started poorly after being put in to bat, losing Devon Conway and Rachin Ravindra early with just 16 runs on the board.

Vijay Shankar, who was dropped twice -- first by Narine at mid-off and later by Venkatesh Iyer at midwicket -- scored 29 runs from 21 balls.

Rahul Tripathi, replacing the injured Ruturaj Gaikwad, was dismissed by Narine for 16 runs, leaving Chennai struggling at 65/4.

The rest of Chennai's batting lineup failed to make an impact. Dhoni, who took over as captain after Gaikwad was ruled out for the season, was trapped leg before by Narine for just one run.

Narine finished with impressive bowling figures of 3/13, while Shivam Dube remained unbeaten on 31 off 29 balls, helping Chennai cross the 100-run mark.

Kolkata completed the chase with 59 balls remaining, demonstrating their dominance in all aspects of the game.
