'10000 Gavaskar': BCCI honours Sunil Gavaskar with board room tribute

NEW DELHI: Indian cricket legend Sunil Gavaskar has been bestowed with a special honour by the Board of Control for Cricket in India ( BCCI ) on Thursday, which officially named a board room after him at its Mumbai headquarters.

The gesture celebrates Gavaskar’s historic feat of becoming the first cricketer to score 10,000 runs in Test cricket.

The newly inaugurated room, titled ‘10000 Gavaskar’, serves as a tribute to one of the most iconic milestones in the sport. Gavaskar, who played for India between 1971 and 1987, was renowned for his impeccable technique and composure against the world’s fiercest bowlers.

A video shared by the BCCI captured the emotional unveiling ceremony, where Gavaskar was joined by BCCI president Roger Binny , vice-president Rajeev Shukla , and secretary Devajit Saikia . The moment marked a fitting recognition of the legacy left by the former India captain.



“This honour is deeply humbling. I’m thankful to the BCCI and all the fans who stood by me during my career,” Gavaskar said.



The tribute not only highlights Gavaskar’s cricketing achievements but also honours the values of discipline and dedication he brought to Indian cricket, inspiring generations to follow.
