It will be the second edition of the NBA Cup, then under the working name of the NBA In-Season Tournament . All 30 teams are participating, playing a total of four regular-season games that will be used in the standings of the group stage. Every match in the knockout round, except for the championship game, also serves towards season standings. The tournament's semifinals and championship game will be held at T-Mobile Arena on the Las Vegas Strip. The Los Angeles Lakers is the title holder.
Format of the 2024 NBA CupThe format of the tournament is not very different from in-season, multi-stage tournaments in European soccer. The group stage includes three groups with five teams each in the same conference, for a total of six groups. Games played on Tuesdays and Fridays between November 12 and December 3 count in the regular season standings and the NBA Cup standings. In every match, the teams play one game against all other teams in their group, which means four games: two at home and two on the road.
If two or more teams in a group have equal records upon completion of group play, the following tiebreakers are applied in this order:
The existing broadcasters of the NBA will cover the group stage of the tournament. During the group stage, TNT will have a doubleheader on Tuesday nights, while ESPN will have a doubleheader on Friday nights. Then, NBA TV will offer three additional games in the afternoon on Black Friday.
What is the prize money?The trophy is showcased at the center court of all 30 teams during every game. They are entitled to income concerning their win as a team or could opt to lose their game, since the champions are rewarded with $500 000, the losing team in the game of final, and $200 000 bonus for the semifinals and quarterfinals. The MVP and All-Tournament Team will be through a vote by the media after the final game.
