“Get his a** in the film room”: Tom Brady's blunt advice to Shedeur Sanders resurfaces amid concerns about NFL readiness

Send Push
A recently resurfaced clip of Tom Brady offering advice to Shedeur Sanders has gone viral—and not without reason. The legendary quarterback’s comments, delivered during a podcast with Deion and Shedeur Sanders, now serve as a prophetic warning that may explain the young quarterback’s surprising slide in the 2025 NFL Draft.

Tom Brady’s message was more than just a joke
In the clip, Deion Sanders asks Brady what he thinks about his son, Shedeur, driving a Rolls-Royce while still in college. Brady doesn’t hold back, responding with a pointed remark that now rings louder in hindsight:

“I think he needs to get his a** in the film room and spend as much time in there as possible, with less time in the car and more time in the film room.”

Though delivered with a touch of humor, Brady’s advice had a sharp undertone. It reflected what NFL scouts and front offices were reportedly already concerned about: Shedeur’s dedication, focus, and maturity as he entered the draft process. For many teams, the off-field image didn’t match what they expected from a franchise quarterback prospect.

NFL draft slide reflects more than just performance concerns
Shedeur Sanders was once projected as a first-round talent. But by draft day, he had slipped all the way to the fifth round, eventually being selected by the Cleveland Browns. The drop wasn’t due to talent alone. Reports emerged that Sanders came off as unprepared and overconfident in pre-draft interviews, with the New York Giants in particular allegedly turned off by his demeanor.

Unlike his father, Deion “Prime Time” Sanders—whose charisma was backed by undeniable dominance on the field—Shedeur’s swagger has yet to be matched by NFL-level performance. That disparity appears to have made some teams uncomfortable, viewing him as more flash than substance.

Now a member of the Browns, Shedeur has a legitimate opportunity to redefine his narrative. The talent is still there, and if he heeds Brady’s advice—focusing less on the perks of celebrity and more on the grind—he could still carve out a successful NFL career.

Brady’s words have become more than a viral soundbite—they’ve become a litmus test for Shedeur’s growth: Will he continue to chase the spotlight, or will he finally put in the hours behind the scenes? Only time, and plenty of film study, will tell.
