Kevin De Bruyne ready for Napoli switch after Serie A triumph under Antonio Conte

Send Push
Kevin De Bruyne is apparently poised to part ways with Manchester City after almost 10 years at the club, with Serie A champions Napoli set to be in the box seat for the Belgian midfield maestro. The City contract of the 33-year-old runs out on June 30, with the club choosing not to extend despite the player wanting to remain.

This comes with Sky Sport claiming De Bruyne is due in Naples next week, to negotiate a two-year contract which would see him re-join Serie A under the tutelage of Antonio Conte, who only recently guided Napoli to a fourth Scudetto. It would signal a new phase in the career of one of Europe's creative playmakers as he bids to keep playing at the top level.
Napoli’s ambition to strengthen their squad for Champions League footballNapoli are looking to strengthen after their Serie A title win to ensure the club can properly target a challenge in the Champions League next season. De Bruyne aligns with the club's philosophy to integrate international experience into the club's current setup.

Napoli might also be an attractive option for De Bruyne, with Belgian striker Romelu Lukaku joined by ex-Premier League stars Scott McTominay and Billy Gilmour. Club officials, including sporting director Giovanni Manna, have already spoken with the 29-year-old forward, venturing to outline the project they plan to undertake as well as what he expects on both a personal and professional level.

What the move means for Kevin De Bruyne and Napoli’s futureThe Belgian would add a wealth of creativity, experience, and leadership to a Napoli side sorely in need of more pedigree at the top level — should the transfer come off. A reunion with the ever-controversial Lukaku, who, like Martinez, is a longtime friend and national teammate, would make the deal just that much more sensational.

Meanwhile, De Bruyne is reported to be asking for a wage around 50% of what he receives at Man City, as he prefers a more balanced role than the money. This high-profile switch is pending confirmation and may mean his last appearance for City comes sooner than expected. Marking a world-class midfielder for Napoli would be a monumental step towards both domestic and European aspirations, with dominating the Serie A not being enough to quench the thirst for trophies.
