Russell Wilson and Jameis Winston signed, but Shedeur Sanders makes sure he's still on Giants' radar

Shedeur Sanders has quickly become one of the most talked-about names ahead of the 2025 NFL Draft, and despite the New York Giants signing veteran quarterbacks Russell Wilson and Jameis Winston this offseason, the Colorado standout remains firmly in their sights. Holding the No. 3 overall pick, the Giants find themselves in a unique position to possibly secure their quarterback of the future—even after bolstering their roster with two experienced signal-callers.

Shedeur Sanders addresses Giants rumors with sharp take on Russell Wilson and Jameis Winston moves

Russell Wilson and Jameis Winston were both brought in on short-term deals, with Winston agreeing to a two-year, $8 million contract, and Wilson signing a one-year deal worth $10.5 million. These moves, while adding immediate depth and experience to the position, haven’t ruled out the Giants’ interest in drafting a young quarterback with franchise potential. And Shedeur Sanders, who has shown maturity, leadership, and skill at Colorado, fits that bill.

What’s more intriguing is how Sanders himself views the Giants’ recent activity. On a recent episode of his podcast 2Legendary with Shedeur Sanders, the 23-year-old didn’t express any concern about competing with established veterans. Instead, he praised the franchise for its proactive moves.

“Whatever they want to do, I think it was a good move for them regardless,” Sanders said, via Bleacher Report. His response reflects a level-headedness that NFL front offices crave in a young quarterback—someone who understands the business side of the game and is focused on earning his place.

Sanders also shared what kind of locker room culture he’d like to be part of, adding, “Jameis is cool. That’s what I’m saying. Whatever QB room, whatever. I just hope it ain’t everybody in there just too serious, serious. You know what I mean? Just have a good vibe. You know, friendly competition, it is what it is.” His comments suggest that while he's ready to compete, he's also hoping for an environment that encourages growth through camaraderie, not just pressure.

Reports by ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler confirm that the Giants are keeping their options open. The franchise sent 14 staffers to Colorado’s Pro Day to scout Sanders and two-way sensation Travis Hunter. While Bleacher Report’s latest mock draft projects the Giants selecting Hunter, the front office could pivot quickly if Sanders is still available at No. 3.

Even with Winston likely under contract through 2026 and Wilson offering leadership and playoff experience, neither represents a long-term guarantee. Both quarterbacks will be over 31 by next season, which makes Sanders’ youth and ceiling all the more appealing.

Of course, the Giants may not get a chance to draft him. The Tennessee Titans and Cleveland Browns hold the top two picks and could snatch Sanders off the board before New York even gets a say. But if the quarterback is still available when the Giants are on the clock, the front office may have a tough time passing on a player who seems ready for the challenge—and for the NFL spotlight.
