Andhra IPS trio named accused in actress case

VIJAYAWADA: Three senior Andhra Pradesh IPS officers suspended recently on charges of framing, arresting and harassing a Mumbai-based actress earlier this year have been listed as accused in the case along with two other cops. Kukkala Vidyasagar , a YSRCP neta held three days ago, has been named prime accused.

The IPS trio are former intelligence chief PSR Anjaneyulu, former NTR district commissioner Kanthi Rana Tata and former NTR district rural DCP Vishal Gunni. Former inspector Satyanarayana and former ACP Hanumantha Rao are the other two policemen.

The five officers have been accused of framing the actress in connivance with Vidyasagar in an alleged attempt to coerce her withdraw a sexual assault complaint in Mumbai.

Vidyasagar, arrested from Dehradun Friday after weeks on the run, has been accused by the actress of falsely implicating her and her family in a forgery and extortion case, leading to their illegal detention and harassment by AP cops in Feb this year. Vidyasagar was on Monday remanded in judicial custody till Oct 4.

The actress, along with her elderly parents, was arrested on Feb 2 and released on bail after spending 42 days in jail.

The actress filed a complaint few weeks ago, alleging that Vidyasagar falsely implicated her using forged documents, resulting in her wrongful arrest and harassment. She accused the IPS officers of orchestrating case against her. The govt suspended the three officers last week. Hanumanth Rao and Satyanarayana had been suspended earlier.

The actress alleged that during her detention, she and her family were subjected to physical and mental harassment. She stated in her complaint that the officers threatened her with additional false cases from different states unless she dropped the case.
