NEW DELHI: An FIR has been filed against the Karnataka Bharatiya Janata Party after a controversial post that allegedly drew parallels between former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi and Adolf Hitler , PTI confirmed on Thursday.
The case stems from a complaint filed by KPCC general secretary S Manohar at High Grounds police station on June 25, according to police officials.
Manohar's complaint stated that BJP's official 'X' account (@BJP4Karnataka) posted content at 3:54 pm on Wednesday with the caption "INDIRA NOT EQUALS INDIA, INDIRA = HITLER", alongside a 38-second video about the Emergency period in India.
The complainant noted that the post, which was subsequently removed, contained a graphic where Indira Gandhi's image was altered to appear similar to Hitler.
The complainant asserted that the content was defamatory towards the former prime minister and was intended to provoke societal unrest and create discord between religious and community groups.
"Based on the complaint received, we have registered a case under sections 192 (wantonly giving provocation with intent to cause riot) and 353 (statements conducing to public mischief) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. Further investigation is underway," a senior police officer said.
