Trainer aircraft crashes in Gujarat's Amreli, pilot killed

NEW DELHI: A trainer aircraft crashed in Gujarat's Amreli on Tuesday. The pilot was killed in the incident, police told PTI.

The aircraft belonged to a private aviation academy crashed. The accident occurred around 12:30 pm near the Giriya Road area of Amreli town. According to Superintendent of Police Sanjay Kharat, the pilot, who was flying solo, took off from Amreli airport before the plane crashed due to unknown reasons.


The aircraft reportedly struck a tree before crash-landing in an open plot near the Shastri Nagar area, which helped prevent further casualties.

The aircraft burst into flames after crashing in the vicinity of Shastri Nagar area, according to Kharat.

"After taking off from the Amreli airport with a male trainee pilot, the trainer aircraft of an aviation academy, which operates from the airport, crashed into a residential area. The trainee pilot, who was flying solo, died in the crash while the aircraft was gutted in flames. No one else was injured in the accident," said Kharat.

Kharat noted that a Delhi-based aviation academy conducts pilot training operations at the Amreli airport.

The Superintendent of Police confirmed that authorities have initiated procedures to register an accidental death case and launched an investigation to determine the precise cause of the incident.

Fire officer SC Gadhvi stated that four fire brigade units were dispatched to Shastrinagar immediately after receiving reports of the aircraft crash and subsequent fire.
"Though the plane crashed into a residential area, no one else was injured because it first fell on a tree and then crashed into an open plot. The fire was eventually brought under control by our teams" he said.
