Will bring law to prevent mixing of human waste with food: CM Yogi Adityanath

LUCKNOW: UP govt is all set to introduce a new law to prevent contamination of food by " anti-social elements hiding their identities", by mixing " human waste and inedible substances", CM Yogi Adityanath said Tuesday.

The new law would grant every consumer the "right to know essential information" about food and beverage sellers and service providers. To ensure this, it would be mandatory for all such establishments to display a signboard and require all staff members to wear identification badges, he said. The law will have harsh penal provisions for those using pseudonyms or providing false information.

Food outlet owners will also have to provide details of personnel employed at their establishments to the relevant authorities. The law should provide for strict action if it is confirmed that any personnel in a food establishment is an infiltrator or a foreign national illegally staying in India, CM said at a meeting to discuss the proposed legislation. The proposed law comes after UP govt faced flak for its order mandating eateries along the Kanwar yatra route to display the names of owners and staffers, with SC staying the directive.

The proposed law will also make it mandatory to install CCTV cameras in the kitchens and dining areas of all food establishments for continuous monitoring, with at least one month's footage made available to the district administration upon request.

Among other rules for eateries, govt is expected to enforce laws requiring those preparing and serving food to wear head covers, masks and gloves.
