NEW DELHI: Assam Police Service (APS) officer Sandipan Garg, cousin of late singer Zubeen Garg, has been arrested in connection with the ongoing investigation into the singer’s death in Singapore.
Sandipan, who was reportedly present with Zubeen at the time of the incident in Singapore, had earlier been questioned along with other close associates.
A local court in Guwahati on Wednesday remanded APS officer Sandipan Garg to seven days of police custody. Garg was arrested by the Special Investigation Team (SIT) of Assam Police in connection with the ongoing investigation into the death of singer Zubeen Garg.
"Court has sent Sandipan Garg to seven days of police custody," said SIT Chief and Special DGP, Crime Investigation Department, Prasad Gupta, while speaking to news agency ANI.
The SIT has so far arrested five others in the case, including key figures linked to the event in Singapore where Zubeen Garg died.
Those in custody include the main event organiser Shyamkanu Mahanta, the singer’s manager Siddhant Sharma, bandmate Shekhar Jyoti Goswami, and co-singer Amritprava Mahanta.
Earlier on October 7, Rupkamal Kalita, an Assamese national based in Singapore and reportedly present at the yacht party on the day of the singer's death, appeared before the SIT for questioning.
