6.1 magnitude Earthquake strikes Eastern Turkey, reports EMSC

A 6.1 magnitude earthquake struck eastern Turkey on Wednesday, according to the European Mediterranean Seismological Centre ( EMSC ). The quake occurred at a depth of 9 km below the surface, the EMSC reported.

The last major earthquake to hit Turkey was in February, during the Turkey-Syria earthquake. Officials and medics reported that 9,057 people died in Turkey and 2,992 in Syria from the 7.8-magnitude tremor, bringing the total death toll to 12,049.
