Pakistan army chief General Asim Munir is expected to visit the United States again, his second trip in just two months, according to official sources in Islamabad, as reported by Dawn.
The visit is aimed at holding consultations with his American counterparts.
Pakistan General Munir had earlier visited Washington in June, where he was hosted by President Donald Trump for a lunch at the White House.
Following that, Pakistan tried to strengthen ties further by lobbying for a Nobel Peace Prize nomination for Trump.
The meeting between Munir and Trump took place amid rising tensions between India and Pakistan following the Pahalgam terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir, which claimed 26 lives. In response, India launched a counterterrorism operation under Operation Sindoor.
Speaking about the Nobel Peace Prize during that period, Trump said, “I should have gotten it four or five times. They won't give me a Nobel Peace Prize because they only give it to liberals.”
Since Operation Sindoor, Trump has repeatedly claimed credit for helping establish a "ceasefire" between the two nuclear-armed nations.
Trump recently announced a trade deal with Pakistan and offered US help in exploring what he described as "massive oil reserves" in the country.
At the same time, relations between India and the US appear to have taken a hit. Trump has imposed a 25% tariff on Indian goods over India’s oil trade with Russia, especially crude imports. Just a week later, the Trump administration announced an additional 25% tariff, bringing the total to 50%.
