'Why isn't she engaging with public?': Time Magazine owner criticises Kamala Harris for avoiding interview

Marc Benioff , owner of Time magazine since 2018, has publicly challenged Vice President Kamala Harris for declining multiple interview requests.

"Despite several attempts, TIME has not secured an interview with Kamala Harris—unlike every other presidential candidate. We believe in transparency and publish each interview in full. Why isn’t the Vice President engaging with the public on the same level?" he said in a post on X.

In August, Time magazine unveiled an edition featuring Harris on the cover titled "Her Moment," after she replaced President Joe Biden as the Democratic nominee. This came after she and Biden were named Time’s Person of the Year in 2020.

This criticism follows a media blitz by Harris, who has recently appeared on popular talk shows such as The View, the Howard Stern Show, and The Late Show with Stephen Colbert. However, her engagement with serious news outlets has been notably limited, with her only significant appearance on 60 Minutes last Monday. In contrast, both former President Donald Trump and current President Joe Biden had both engaged in lengthy discussions with Time, each granting around 90 minutes of interview time.

Earlier, Harris had faced scrutiny for her perceived reluctance to participate in press interviews, a situation highlighted by her senior adviser, Keisha Lance Bottoms. In a recent interview with CNN's Jake Tapper, Bottoms defended Harris’s absence from the press, asserting, "She’s a very busy person."

Critics, including Trump, had seized upon Harris's limited press interactions, accusing her of avoiding scrutiny. The former president has repeatedly suggested that her reluctance to hold press conferences indicates a lack of competence, stating she is "not smart enough" to face the media. As per Fox News, Harris has not conducted a formal press conference since becoming the Democratic nominee, while Trump has been actively engaging with the press.
