Focus on winning not records: Jurel

Lucknow: Local lad Dhruv Jurel looked satisfied after scoring a big ton, his second first-class century in 26 games, against Australia ‘A' on the final day of the four-day match at the Ekana Stadium. The knock is likely to boost his chances of retaining his place in the Indian Test squad for the upcoming West Indies series .

However, the wicket-keeper said he was not looking too far ahead. "My job is to perform on the field. I am only thinking about my next game, which is again against Australia ‘A' next week. I am not thinking about the upcoming Test series against the West Indies," he said.

Talking about his journey, he added, "Agra is not very famous for producing cricket stars, so it gives me great pleasure to bring smiles to the faces of cricket fans in my city. That motivates me to work even harder."

On having just two centuries in 26 first-class games, Jurel said, "I used to care a lot about scoring centuries, but now I find satisfaction in winning matches for the team. I missed out on centuries eight times, but in those games, I managed to win four matches. That includes my 90 that helped India draw the Ranchi Test against England."

Meanwhile, Australia ‘A' head coach Tim Paine, who looked annoyed by the weather, said, "We can't control the weather, but the wicket was pretty good. It would have been really good had there been a bit more sun on it."

"It's probably not a bad starting point for us, coming here and not playing on an extremely turning Indian wicket. Maybe next week will be like that. But overall, the players were pretty happy with the hit-out," he added.
